Jessica Fleitman is a playwright, lyricist, and fiction writer. Her plays include The Average-Sized Mermaid (Corwin Award), Deuteranomaly (nominated for 5 PCTF Awards), Word of the Day (commissioned by the Sloan Foundation and Magic Theatre), G Train Exodus (winner of the LIC One Act Play Festival), and Show of Hands (developed in the Pipeline PlayLab). Her work has been produced in the New York Fringe Festival, Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, Manhattan Theatre Source, and other venues and festivals throughout New York City. She is a proud member of the Dramatists Guild of America.
Jessica is a lyricist in the prestigious BMI Advanced Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Songwriting Workshop. Her work with composer Rick Bassett has been performed throughout New York City, and she is the librettist and lyricist of "God of Love" (adapted from the Oscar-winning short film of the same name by Luke Matheny) with composer Ben Boecker.
Her short story, "Amber Wong-Cohen," was a finalist for the 2010 Flatmancrooked Fiction Prize and is available as a “single” on Amazon, as well as in Mixer Publishing’s "Of Love & Death: An Anthology of Literary Romance & Realism," in which the story was also published in 2011.
Jessica is the recipient of the Tisch School of the Arts Departmental Fellowship from NYU, where she is currently pursuing her MFA in Dramatic Writing.
