True Bible Tales

So, this is gonna be amazing. The Jewish Plays Project is proud to present True Bible Tales by Rob Askins as part of the Downtown Tikkun Shavuot at the 14th Street Y.

1. What is True Bible Tales?

When Little Timmy's life falls to pieces, he seeks comfort in reading the story of David’s pursuit of power and love in the Bible from the killing Goliath to his own son's rebellion against his kingdom. Bloody, exuberant, and adapted from the book of Samuel verbatim, True Bible Tales follows David's life onstage through the eyes of a little boy who falls farther than should be possible.

It's 1st Samuel as you've never seen it before: pop-music, flying foreskins, sex, drugs, violence and G-d. Originally presented as a 9-week run in The Flea's #Serials@theflea late-night series, most of the original TBT team is back!

Directed by Benjamin Kamine
Choreography by Joya Powell
Music Direction by Matt Vinson
Lighting Design by Joshua Benghiat
Featuring: Cleo Gray, Alex Mandell*, Alex Gould, Sean McIntyre, Jamie Bock, Jeff Ronan, Cristina Pitter, Brett Epstein, Lydian Blossom, Wayne Mack

2. What is a Tikkun?

Celebrating the giving of the OG-Bible on Mount Sinai, Shavuot has evolved into an all-night study session. From sundown to sunup, we read and reflect on Bible stories. "Tikkun" means repair, and this study is our effort to repair the world with Torah.

3. What is the Downtown Tikkun Leil Shavuot?

The brainchild of the amazing Rabbi Shira Klein, the Tikkun is a HUGE gathering of the entire downtown NYC jewy-art world! A night of study, music, teaching, theater, art, dance, booze, and revelry!
heck out this racuous line-up of folks:

Brotherhood Synagogue, The Bronfman Center for Jewish Life of NYU, Congregation Beth Simchat Torah, Conservative Synagogue of Fifth Avenue, East End Temple, Hazon, Jewish Community Project Downtown, LABA: A Laboratory for Jewish Culture, LAB/Shul, The New Shul, Reboot, School for Creative Judaism, The Sixth Street Community Synagogue, Tamid: The Downtown Synagogue, Town & Village Synagogue, UJA-Federation of New York, The Village Temple, Zeek
