by Mariel Eve Berlin-Fischler

A past betrayal plunges a family into fresh panic with the arrival of an unexpected text message, minutes before Shabbat. As the clock ticks toward the Sunday wedding of her only daughter, a mother is forced to choose between family connection and family protection in the light of a long-buried secret.

Playwright Mariel Eve Berlin-Fischler

I am so excited by the complexity of Jewish representation in this play, especially the look at the Mashadi community, which rarely has appeared onstage. But more importantly, I was moved by the depth of feeling, the crisp and clear characterizations, and the way the plays unfolds.

Mariel Eve Berlin-Fischler is a Jewish playwright and teaching artist based in the greater Washington, D.C. area. Her dual careers and passions of theatre and education inform one another and inspire her as a practitioner in both realms to create work that explores how we, as people, grow and develop to become the way that we are. Mariel’s specializations and aspirations touch down at the intersection of personal development and thoughtful exposure. She believes experiential design to be a relationship, a responsibility, and the ultimate path to universal change. Mariel earned her B.A. in Theatre from the University of Maryland, College Park in May of 2014 and concluded her pursuit of an M.Ed. in Arts Integration in May of 2020.
